One of our favorite casual places to eat near Downtown Charleston. We get their chopped brisket and mac'n'cheese, its so yummy! You do not have to make reservation, its first come first served with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
Leon's is one of the more casual restaurants near downtown. They are known for their oysters and fried chicken. My favorite thing to get their is the cucumber salad and shrimp roll. They don't require reservation but I would recommend them!
In the heart of downtown right off of King street is Husk. They serve brunch, lunch , and dinner, but my personal favorite is their brunch. I always get a couple of sweet treats from their appetizers and their shrimp and grits for my main meal- absolutely delicious. I highly recommend reservations because their wait times can be long without them.
If you are looking for a more upscale restaurant Obstinate Daughter is one of our favorites. They serve fresh fish, pasta, and pizza. Obstinate Daughter is located at Sullivan's beach which is about a 30 min drive from downtown (depending on traffic). While you are there you can check out the beach, shops on the strip, and grab a frose from Co-op. I would recommend reservations, but you don't have to have them. The restaurants on this strip are all yummy!
Boxcar Betty's is one of Chad's favorite places. There are serval locations throughout Charleston. They are known for their chicken sandwich. Our go to order is their Boxcar Betty combo. We love going here because it is casual and cheaper then most Charleston restaurants, but it's still a Charleston staple.
Charleston is known for their Brunch scene and this is another one of our favorites. Virginia's on King is known for their southern cuisine. We recommend their fried chicken biscuit and their fried Okra as an appetizer. They also serve dinner.
Other popular brunch places downtown we have not had a chance to try but are highly recommend are High Cotton, Magnolias, and Hall's Chophouse. These restaurants all serve dinner as well.
I would recommend reservations for any restaurant downtown.
My last breakfast/brunch recommendation. Millers All Day has two locations. One is downtown, they don't take reservations and sometimes the wait is long. They also have a location on James Island. If you are looking to check out Folly beach, this location is on the way. Everything on their menu is good. My favorite thing to get is their donut flight.
Tavern & Table is located in Shem Creek. Shem Creek is a popular place for food and to get late night drinks. It is right on the water and they have great lunch/dinner food! (I would make reservations)
If your wanting to go to get drinks and listen to live music I would recommend walking over to Saltwater Cowboy.
